Michigan Drug Dealing Crimes

The term ‘drug dealer’ is something we have heard and we all know its meaning.  To prosecutors, the courts, and the State of Michigan Legislature, drug dealers are considered as some of the worst types of people.  As highly respected Michigan drug dealer defense attorneys, we completely disagree with this. However, because the laws are written by these people, the laws prohibiting the sale and manufacturing of drugs in Michigan are extremely harsh.  In the event that you are charged in State court with delivery or manufacturing of drugs, chances are a conviction will result in prison time.

Delivery, Manufacture, Possession with the Intent to Deliver

Delivery of cocaine, manufacturing of methamphetamine, and possession with the intent to deliver heroin are charges that we routinely deal with in our practice.  Governed by MCL §333.7401, a conviction for one of these felonies can result in sentences as extreme as a life sentence.  Each of these types of charges deals with different parts of an illegal narcotic transaction. Delivery is that actual handing off of cocaine or heroin for example. Manufacture could be growing marijuana plants or cooking up meth. Possession with the intent to distribute could be somebody in possession of a kilo of cocaine and the prosecutor would argue that the only reason why somebody would have that amount of narcotics would be because they are a drug dealer and are intending on selling them.

Representing Somebody Accused of Drug Dealing in Michigan

Although many attorneys may find it difficult to represent somebody charged with a major drug offense, for over 35 years our attorneys have been at the forefront of drug dealer defense in Michigan and Federal courts.  We pride ourselves with our complex case strategy and intricate motion practice.  Many times, we use these skills to negotiate major deals, for instance, we recently negotiated a delivery and manufacturing of over 100 marijuana plants charge to a plea of possession of marijuana misdemeanor with a sentence consisting solely of fines and costs!!! Other times, we dig in and go to trial, and from that can come excellent outcomes, including not guilty verdicts.

Michigan Drug Dealer Defenses

There are many different strategies when fighting a felony drug charge in Michigan. As Michigan criminal lawyers who routinely handle major drug cases, we believe that this strategy starts out with a team based investigation. What that means is we go far beyond simply getting the police reports from the prosecutor. We send out Freedom of Information Act requests, have our private investigator hit the streets to interview witnesses, and analyze the electronic data that generally comes along with these types of cases. Then we file extensive motions and heavily litigate the case as it moves from the district to the circuit court. While this is all going on, we remain focused on trial strategy and we assume that every case we handle will go to trial. That way if it does, we are ready.
